The customer would like to use what is known as the MICR (magnetic ink >character recognition) typeface. Which printers are supported by SAP for this?

Solution:
SAPscript/Smart Forms has been offering the fonts MICR_C - MICR CMC-7 magnetic ink font MICR_E MICR E-13B magnetic ink font. Enter these in the application form used as fonts in type size 100 (= 10.0 points) to call MICR font at the printer.

Furthermore, a
certain device type in SAP adapted for MICR must be specified for selecting
the output device in Transaction SPAD.
Important note:
It is necessary to purchase either a printer with installed MICR fonts, MICR toner and a MICR toner sensor or to add the additional hardware (MICR DIMM/SIMM module, MICR
toner and MICR toner sensor) to an existing printer before printing MICR documents. Installing hardware into a printer should always be carried out under the guidance of the manufacturer of the MICR add-on hardware.
SAPscript/Smart Forms supports this MICR solution which is based on Hewlett-Packard laser printers. |

Output of the MICR special characters
SAP font MICR_C (MICR CMC-7):
- To print the character "transit", you must enter letter "D" in the SAPscript form
- To print the character "amount", you must enter letter "A" in
the SAPscript form
- To print the character "on-us", you must enter letter "B" in the SAPscript form
- To print the character "dash", you must enter letter "C" in the SAPscript form
- To print the character "arrow", you must enter letter "E" in the SAPscript form

SAP device types for MICR
HPLJMI
This device type is intended for printing the MICR font on HP LaserJet printers of series 4 (LJ 4, 4+, and so on) in which the JetMobile MICR kit is installed. The device type is
delivered as of Release 3.1H. HPLJMI should also work with HP LaserJet printers of series 5, 6 and 4000 providing a JetMobile MICR kit is installed. |
Important note:
Releases 3.1H and 4.0A contain a version of HPLJMI that is incompatible with the JetMobile MICR kit. In these releases a corrected version ZHPLJMI.PRI should be loaded from the attachment of this note and imported into the system. |
HP5MI
This device type is intended for printing MICR font on HP LaserJet printers of series 5 (LJ 5,
5P, and so on), in which the JetMobile MICR kit is installed. HP5MI should also work with HP LaserJet printers of series 6 and HP 4000/5000/8000/9000 provided that a JetMobile MICR kit is installed. The device type is delivered as of Release 4.5A. |
Important note:
This device type can only be used in 4.x releases! File ZHP5MI.PRI is attached to this note and can be imported into the systems Rel. 4.0A or 4.0B.
The warnings occuring during the upload concerning "SP1X, SP6X" are to be ignored. |
